The Louisiana State Medical Society is a voluntary association of physicians providing leadership for the advancement of the health of the people of Louisiana and serving as the premier advocate for patients and physicians. The LSMS does not license physicians or other healthcare providers, and therefore, has no disciplinary authority in legal matters. 
 
If you wish to file a complaint against a licensed healthcare provider, facility, or insurance company, please note the appropriate agencies listed below:
  • Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners (LSBME) is responsible for protecting the public's health and safety by determining qualifications of applicants for licensure, enforcing the medical practice act through the rule making process, and by disciplining licensees who do not follow the rules or adhere to generally accepted standards of practice. Physicians and certain other healthcare professionals fall under the jurisdiction of the Board.   • Louisiana Board of Pharmacy  has the authority and responsibility of regulating the profession and practice of pharmacy in the interest of the health, safety, and welfare of the citizens of the state of Louisiana. In order to file a complaint against a pharmacy, pharmacist, or pharmacy technician licensed by the Louisiana Board of Pharmacy, download the complaint form  online or call the Baton Rouge office at 225.925.6496.

  • Louisiana State Board of Nursing  is responsible for safeguarding the life and health of the citizens of Louisiana by assuring persons practicing as registered nurses and advanced practice registered nurses are competent and safe.   • Medicaid Health Standards  section investigates complaints against against any healthcare facility licensed by the Department of Health and Hospitals.
