Looking to get the most out of your membership? Here are a few ways to get involved with the LSMS.
Annual Meeting of the House of Delegates
The LSMS Annual Meeting of the House of Delegates (HOD) offers an opportunity to meet physician colleagues from around the state and to be a part of the policy making body of the LSMS. The HOD serves as the legislative body of the LSMS, transacts all business of the Society, elects general officers, and establishes the official policies of the Society.

State Boards and Commissions
The LSMS nominates and appoints its physician members to numerous statewide boards and commissions on behalf of the Society.

LSMS Councils and Committees
The LSMS has four Councils (Council on Legislations, Council on SocioEconomics, Council on Public Health, and Council on Member Services), serving as the primary work groups of the Society. Member-physicians consider pressing issues, then debate and provide recommendations to the Board of Governors and to the House on appropriate action.
The LSMS also has Standing Committees which were established in the Society bylaws and are expected to meet at least once a year to perform duties as specified by its charge, the House of Delegates, or the Board of Governors. Those committees include: Budget and Finance; Charter, Constitution & Bylaws; CME Accreditation; and Medical-Legal Interprofessional Committee.
